Marci Payne, IFS therapist, MO, KS

Hello, I’m Marci Payne (she/her), IFS-trained therapist, and licensed counselor in MO & KS:

I have over 25 years of experience in counseling and therapy, helping people navigate the most challenging life and relationship transitions. I have tried a lot of modalities, but IFS therapy is the only one I’ve found that truly helps people feel at home inside of themselves.

I especially enjoy helping people heal from people-pleasing, emotional abuse, and perfectionism. If you're tired of putting your needs last, feeling like you aren’t enough, or not having a voice in your relationships, I’d love to have a conversation with you.

How Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy Works for Personal Growth and Healing:

We do more than talk about problems. We get curious about the “parts” of you involved in the problem.

It’s normal to have different parts, like a part of you that wants to set a boundary, and another part of you that is terrified of conflict.

Together, we identify the different parts of you in your internal family, starting with the parts that want to protect you.

I guide you to access your core “Self”, the compassionate, calm, and confident resource that is inside all of us.

Together, we don’t try to get rid of your parts; we get to know their roles, motivations, and fears.

Along the way, we meet “parts” that are carrying burdens from the past, such as feelings of not being enough, rejection, or shame.

Through IFS, your “Self” can help these parts release past pain and beliefs, so they are freer to reclaim qualities, such as freedom, joy, and play.

Ready to meet your parts? I offer IFS therapy in Lee's Summit and online for residents across Missouri and Kansas.

FAQs about Therapy:

  • As of October 1, 2023, I am in-network with Aetna & UnitedHealthcare insurance plans. I bill insurance through a company called Alma.

For all other insurance plans that I’m out-of-network for, you would pay me directly for the cost of the session. If you’d like to request reimbursement from your insurance company, I can provide a specialized invoice to you monthly.

Note: If you are deciding between self-pay or using insurance, here are a few things to consider. Insurance companies can audit and request your therapist’s progress notes. And insurance companies only pay for what they view as helping decrease mental health symptoms, so a diagnosis is required on your file.

  • I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Missouri since 2001.

I have been a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Kansas since 2025.

I completed Level One, IFS training in January 2026.

  • I completed my Mater’s (MA) in Clinical Psychology in 1997. So I have over 25 years of experience as a therapist in a variety of settings and many different forms of therapy.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy was developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, who found that everyone has distinct sub-personalities, or parts, each with its own feelings, roles, and motivations.

In IFS, each part makes up the whole of us, and each is doing their best to keep us feeling safe and healthy. Parts don’t realize there is an internal resource inside that can see, hear and accept them. So, parts adopt extreme positions in an effort to find safety inside and out.

Using the IFS model, you can discover parts of yourself that you might normally criticize or try to avoid. By approaching self-discovery with compassion and curiosity, you can move past feeling stuck in inner conflict and begin to build trust and harmony within.

As an IFS therapist, I help you reconnect with this healing resource inside of you, so you have more choices, both inside and out.

  • I currently offer both options. I see clients on Wednesdays in Lee’s Summit MO.

I also offer online therapy sessions on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays either via phone or video session. Online therapy sessions are available for Missouri and Kansas residents.

Note: If you choose confidential video sessions, then you will need a secure internet connection and a computer/phone with a camera and microphone. Headphones are helpful if there is background noise.

  • I DON’T provide counseling for children, teens, or couples. I DO provide individual therapy for adults in Missouri, ages 18 and up. (Due to licensing regulations, I am not able to provide psychotherapy services to those outside of my state or country.)

  • I only schedule appointments with new clients after we’ve had an initial conversation to determine if we are a good fit. The best way to reach me is to schedule a complimentary, 15-minute discovery call with me. Click here to see my availability for introductory calls.
