Tired of putting yourself last? Let me hold space for you, so you can learn to be there for yourself as much as you are for others.

Marci Payne, a licensed counselor in Lee's Summit, MO, providing relationship anxiety and people-pleasing therapy.

Hello, I’m Marci (she/her), a licensed counselor in Missouri & Kansas:

I’ve spent over 25 years as a therapist walking alongside pleasers, helpers, and deep feelers as they navigate life’s heaviest transitions.

I especially enjoy helping individuals who feel like they need to be the "strong one"—the one holding everything together for everyone else. If you’re tired of pushing your own needs aside until you reach your breaking point, let me guide you back home to yourself.

Individual Therapy for Relationship Anxiety & People-Pleasing Can Help You:

  • Find your voice and speak up for yourself without getting stuck in guilt.

  • Heal your inner child by addressing the childhood wounds that taught you to stay small or stay quiet.

  • Navigate relationship anxiety and conflict instead of keeping the peace at any cost.

  • Find a way to be with emotions, like anxiety and grief, that you can use for a lifetime, rather than “fix” for now.

  • Learn how to love yourself by changing how you talk, think, and feel about yourself.

Ready to receive the support you need? I offer specialized therapy for people pleasers and relationship anxiety in Lee's Summit and online for residents across Missouri and Kansas.

Healing the Parts of You that Please, Fix, and Merge

with Internal Family Systems Therapy

Most of my clients come to me feeling like their people-pleasing is a "bad habit" they need to break. Through the lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS), we see it differently. We recognize that the parts of you that fix, over-function, or merge with others' needs are actually protective parts that have been working overtime to keep you safe and connected.

In our sessions, we won’t just talk about your anxiety; we will get to know the specific parts of your inner system that carry the weight of "keeping the peace." When these parts feel seen and understood, they can finally begin to soften.

And when the parts of you they are protecting within are free of the emotional pain they have been carrying, then your pleaser parts will have a choice on what role they want to play in your life. This is how we move from the exhaustion of performing for others to the ease of living from a more compassionate and confident place within you.

FAQs about Therapy:

  • As of October 1, 2023, I am in-network with Aetna & UnitedHealthcare insurance plans. I bill insurance through a company called Alma.

For all other insurance plans that I’m out-of-network for, you would pay me directly for the cost of the session. If you’d like to request reimbursement from your insurance company, I can provide a specialized invoice to you monthly.

Note: If you are deciding between self-pay or using insurance, here are a few things to consider. Insurance companies can audit and request your therapist’s progress notes. And insurance companies only pay for what they view as helping decrease mental health symptoms, so a diagnosis is required on your file.

  • I offer in-person sessions at my office in Lee’s Summit, MO, as well as secure online therapy for residents throughout Missouri and Kansas. Both formats are equally effective for individual therapy for anxiety, relationships and people-pleasing.

  • My work is primarily informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS). I have completed extensive training in this model, alongside a deep foundation in trauma-informed care and relational therapy.

I also incorporate holistic and somatic approaches to healing. I believe that true transformation happens when we address the mind, body, and spirit as a whole, rather than just treating symptoms in isolation.

I weave my clinical expertise with my intuition to help you access the healing resources that already exist within you.

  • I provide individual therapy for adults in Missouri and Kansas, ages 18 and up.

  • I completed my Master’s (MA) in Clinical Psychology in 1997. So I have over 25 years of experience as a therapist across a variety of settings and treatment issues.

I have been a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Missouri since 2001. I have also been a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in Kansas since 2025.

  • I only schedule appointments with new clients after we’ve had an initial conversation to determine if we are a good fit. The best way to reach me is to schedule a complimentary, 15-minute discovery call with me. Click here to see my availability for introductory calls.
